The views of Leopoldo Alejandro Betancourt on the effects of Corona Virus Disease to the poor.

Covid 19 is a viral disease first discovered in Wuhan in China. It has spread around different countries globally and negatively impacted the economy and livelihoods of many people. According to Alejandro Betancourt, this disease has a more significant effect on the poor in society.

When Alejandro Betancourt is interviewed his opinion on the effects of covid 19 towards the poor in society, he argues that the disease will hit harder on the poor than the rich. It is not because the social class of an individual determines the contraction of the illness, but because the poor cannot afford the preventive measures.

Alejandro’s opinion on the difference between the rich and the poor in accessing medical assistance is the poor in society hardly have any access to medical aid because of the distance between the respective homes of the poor to a medical facility and affordability of services. Whereas the rich can comfortably access any private hospital regardless of the expenses or opt for home-based treatment, the poor suffer.

According to Alejandro Betancourt, in cases of infection, the difference in terms of quarantine conditions between the poor and the rich is that the poor can’t isolate themselves. Because of the many expenses incurred in a moment of isolation. The poor spend their earnings daily hence posing a challenge to afford basic needs in isolation. The rich will comfortably isolate themselves with all the requirements until they recover fully.

On the interview with Alejandro Betancourt on how the disease will affect the poor and the economy of nations, he points out that there will be massive destruction of the economy due to joblessness. Many businesses and companies will close down. These jobs being the only source of livelihood for the poor, their lives will be significantly affected. Refer to This Article.
