Log onto ClassDoJo, a communication tool that allows you to see your child at school through images, Facebook-like messages, and videos. ClassDojo was founded in 2011 and is an Instagram-type app used in more than 7% of the schools in the United Kingdom.
The app is so popular that some parents leave their phone apps open when they are at work. They can see when pictures of their child’s school appear. Sam Chaudhary, a former education consultant who designed ClassDojo in conjunction with Liam Don, says that the app is a great way for parents to stay connected to their children.
It provides a video-type interface, messaging center, and digital pinboard to allow teachers to give students points from good listening to working hard.
Choudhary explains that there is no ranking of students, and the portal is just a way to spark conversations. It is part of a cultural shift from teachers reporting to parents in traditional ways.
ClassDojo is also introducing video discussions on classroom computers. Other digit platforms are using video to teach subjects. For example, the computing company Tech Will Save Us focuses on a Complete Dough-like Universe or a Play-Doh-like material that shows children all about electricity.
Seesaw, founded by an ex-Facebook executive, is a digital portfolio that allows pupils to visually see their work, receive feedback from teachers, and send clips to parent’s devices.
From ClassDojo to Seesaw to Complete Dough Universe, these education digital platforms are designed to keep kids entertained and educated in ways they will remember. The platforms also provide incredible ways for parents to see what their kids are learning and keep tabs on what is going on in the classroom. Knowing what your children are up to is an important way to keep in touch and stay closer to your kids in today’s environment.
