Dr. Tom Chang MD is an internationally renowned clinician and surgeon. He is also the managing director of Acuity Eye Group and an educator at Retina Institute. He received his masters’ degree from the University of Toronto Medical School and an ophthalmology residency training from the University of Western Ontario. He has also completed three fellowships in retinal diseases From John Hopkins University, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, and Emory University in Atlanta. He gained practical experience after working as an assistant professor of ophthalmology and an associate professor at the University of British Columbia and Doheny Eye Institute for five and seven years respectively. In addition to this, he was part of the team that performed the world’s first surgical implantation. His patients include CEOs, physicians, and professional athletes.
Founder of the largest ophthalmology group in the western United States
The Acuity Eye Group began over a decade ago as a single retina practice. Today, it has more than 60 locations and 14 years of the patient experience. During an interview to commemorate its growth, Dr. Tom Chang MD explained that having excellence in patient care is important but excelling in inpatient experience is his top priority. For him, it is unethical to keep patients waiting unnecessarily. When asked about Acuity Eye Group, Dr. Tom Chang MD explains that he had always envisioned a medical group with thoughtful doctors who enjoy each other’s company, respect patients, and provide absolute care. Therefore, the Acuity Eye Group is more of a collegial organization where all doctors cooperate and operate to give the best services.
A peek into the future
Since the Acuity Group is among the largest providers of automated telemedicine exams in the world, Dr. Tom Chang MD believes in making major inroads into the application of artificial intelligence.
