4 Eye Care Tips by Ophthalmologist Tom S. Chang MD

Eyes are part of the basic human senses that frequently endure various silent damages. Primary eye care is not enough; Tom S. Chang MD narrates that everyone needs proactive eye care that involves lifestyle changes and preventative measures. He highlights the following tips to establish an assertive eye care routine

UV prevention

There has been an increase in new skin cancer cases, indicating the extreme risk of UV exposure. Unprotected eyes are likely to suffer retina damages which may lead to the formation of cataracts. Tom S. Chang MD encourages wearing 100% UV protection sunglasses and embracing this as a long-term outdoor routine among children and teenagers.

Barrier protection

Tom S. Chang MD explains that some of his patients have endured ocular injuries. Such injuries, he says are preventable using protective eyewear while working on any task that has the potential risk of causing eye injury. The ideal protective eyewear should block particles of all sizes and from all angles.

Annual ophthalmologist review

Annual eye checkups with an ophthalmologist will enable you to keep track of your eye wellness. These visits open an opportunity to identify any abnormalities and start to manage or treat them (Doctor).

Nutritional support

Foods rich in antioxidants, leafy green vegetables and fish are very rich in eye nutrition. You can add any foods with these nutrients; lutein, zeaxanthin, vitamin C and E, Zinc and fatty acids. If you cannot access any of these foods, you can substitute them with supplements. Ensure your body is well hydrated at all times; eye fluids will remain healthy and protect your debris.
