SeaWorld: The World’s Best Marine Parks

SeaWorld Rescue teams care for thousands of marine mammals, birds, turtles, fish and other animals each year. In the wild, SeaWorld Rescue teams and staff rehabilitate sick, injured, orphaned or injured sea animals so they can be returned to the wild. In the park, animals are brought to us for emergency care such as animal attacks etc.

SeaWorld has been a leading voice in supporting ocean research, stewardship, and conservation. SeaWorld parks are committed to ocean conservation, preservation, and restoration. These efforts include The Black Manta campaign, a partnership between SeaWorld San Diego and the National Geographic Society. SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment also supports the SeaWorld Environmental Research Institute (SeaEREI), a leading organization in oceanographic research.

PETA’s campaign is a multi-year effort to stop the exhibition of killer whales in its parks and drive public opinion away from the practice of captivity. A leader in this effort is PETA’s In Defense of Animals (IDA) campaign to bring the awareness to an entire generation of people about SeaWorld’s treatment of its orcas and the other animals it holds captive.

This investigation led to the release of a 23-minute documentary film, Blackfish, which is critical of the captivity of killer whales in marine parks, and particularly the conditions of SeaWorld Orlando.

The Animal Care Team is responsible for maintaining and providing care and veterinary care to the park’s mammals. Each year, their work often includes preventing or treating illness and caring for injured or ill animals. For animals with severe injuries or illnesses, the team provides lifesaving emergency care and helps them recover.
