Mexican entrepreneur Daniel Madariaga recently made a significant donation to SOS Children’s Village to celebrate International Education Day. SOS is an independent, non-governmental non-profit organization that helps children who have lost their families or who lack adequate parental care. SOS Children’s Village was founded in 1949 and maintains world headquarters in Innsbruck, Austria. Daniel Madariaga is a businessman who operates in the green construction industry. He is a leader in MAAS, mobility as a service. His primary focus has long been developing ecological solutions within the construction industry and tackling transportation and mobility challenges in Mexico City.
SOS has long been a vital resource for children in Mexico. The organization operates in Mexico City, Tijuana, Morelia, Comitán and Tuxtla Gutiérrez. It has served thousands of children and provided aid for 1,700 children and adolescents in 2019 alone. Underpinning the SOS philosophy is that children are the world’s most valuable resource. Providing them with a stable childhood and excellent educational opportunities prepares them for a bright future. The goals of SOS Children’s Village are exactly the kind of initiatives Daniel Madariaga is eager to support. It dovetails with the fundamental philosophy of his business practices. Madariaga believes it is essential for companies in the construction sector play their part. One of the most important things the construction industry can do, he said, is to develop ways to build vital infrastructures in a sustainable and ecologically sound manner.
One of Daniel Madariaga’s initiatives is to create building materials from natural and recyclable sources. A recent example is when he found a way to collect tons of seaweed/sargassum that had washed up on the shores of Mexico and transformed the unwanted aquatic growth into a building material that is stronger than concrete. Sargassum bricks have proven to be extremely versatile. They can be used anywhere and have a functional viability of an estimated 120 years. Another focus of Daniel Madariaga is technology. He believes implementing strong environmental systems is the key to producing green construction systems that are both economical and leave minimal impact on the environment. Technology can also solve problems in transportation. Mr. Madariaga has been working on an “automated parking” system in Mexico City that will save energy and reduce emissions.
