One of the smartest and most significant figures in the American technology industry is Greg Blatt. The former Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Match Group have had several roles and achievements throughout his entire life. He was also the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Tinder and the family of companies that belong to IAC. He studied at Colgate University and graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts in Literature and Economics. He also attended Columbia Law School and graduated in 1995 with a Doctor of Law. He was the CEO of IAC from 2010 to 2013 and also served as CEO of Match Group from 2015 to 2017.
In a recent interview, Greg Blatt explained the path he took since his career has been nonlinear. He said that he has been more or less of a ‘wandering spirit’ for the better part of his life. After getting his undergraduate degree, he first decided to take some time off, traveling around the world, doing odd jobs, and supporting himself. He would even live in a tent in Telluride, enjoying nature to the maximum. He joined the law school in a quest to seek newer experiences. However, this was one of the crucial and most important moments of his life. He developed the art of thinking critically, which he calls training the brain athletically. He has worked different jobs ever since, most of them demanding, thus enhancing a strong work ethic.
Greg also had some advice on leadership. As CEO, he admitted that workload is overwhelming, and proper prior planning will go a long way in preventing poor performance. However, during the planning and scheduling, he advises that it is okay to have a portion of the day unscheduled, balancing between reactive and proactive work. Inquisitiveness is also an important trait, as he put it. The most important question that a person on a leadership position can ask is when.
