There is a local group that offers tutorials n how to code. The program has mainly focused on teaching young girls free of charge. Recently, the group received a financial donation worth $50,000 from Michael Goguen and Jamie. The two philanthropists hail from Whitefish.
Code Girls United will utilize the $50,000 to support different activities within the organization. The program is still depending on volunteers who offer the coding lessons free of charge.

Girls in the fourth grade can take part in the program. For starters, they will learn about the basics of computer science. They will also learn about how to create real-world applications progressively.
Such programs ensure that young girls invest in technology, science, math, and engineering. Since technology is evolving rapidly, most jobs will entail coding work or different types of technology. The Code Girls United program can be likened to a preparatory school that offers its services free of charge.
The girls are taught the coding basics through the App-Inventor tool. At some point, they will break into groups. During the group discussions, they will try to look into different problems that are affecting the world currently. The girls will then try to formulate solutions to each problem.
The girls are supposed to carry out market research, come up with a business plan, complete the design and development phase, write the code for the application, and then present the application during the final demonstration.
The teams may also take part in competitions locally or within the state. The group is supposed to attend the Northwest Regional App Challenge, and the funds donated by Michael Goguen and Jamie will support the program accordingly. The challenge will take place at the Flathead Valley Community College.
The financial donation makes it possible to include scholarship prizes for the teams that will win the challenge. The winning team will be awarded $5,000, the first runner up will win $2,500, whereas the second runner up will win $1,000.
The event is free of charge, and girls who have managed to complete their coding projects can participate. Some of the coding projects include creating an application or a website. The teams usually present their projects in a similar manner to a science fair. The group that manages to reach the semifinals will make a presentation before a panel of judges.
The girls are encouraged to ensure the coding in each project can solve different problems affecting the world at large. The donation issued by Goguen will ensure the program will continue running while also educating more girls who may be interested in coding.
