ClassDojo is a learning and school communication app, created by Sam Chaudhary and Liam Don, that is used by teachers, students, and their families both in and outside of the actual classroom. The program features various educational methods that facilitate children’s social, emotional, and academic learning. The majority of the app is handled through communication with the students’ parents and teachers, though the students themselves also have a say in what skills they want to focus on. One of the main issues that is addressed with ClassDojo is communication. Communication between teachers and parents is benefited by having the students’ progress logged on the app, so that teachers can clearly show parents how their children are doing with the curriculum and what they’re currently learning.
A great aid for communication between all parties is the messaging system of ClassDojo, which allows everyone to message questions or comments to each other. The app can translate these conversations into over 30 languages, in order to help break down any cultural and language barriers that might get in the way of connecting. ClassDojo offers plenty of fun real-life activities and videos that students can engage in outside of class, which involve cute little ‘monster’ characters that build up excitement for upcoming lessons. These and other aspects of the app create interactive experiences by encouraging students to ask open-ended questions, reaching goals set by their teachers and parents, and earn rewards for good behavior.
