Friends...Companions...and Saying Goodbye...

My heart weighs, so heavy by saying goodbye, again so soon, to my Frisbee Dog, Friend, Companion and Partner…Ariel Ally. On Oct 31, 2010 Ariel Ally – the Florida State Champion, the daughter of the World Champion Ariel Asah, passed away unexpectedly.

January 7, 2011 she would have been 12 years old. Two weeks before she passed away she was playing Frisbee disc running and jumping in her powerful leaps and amazing grace. One week before, Ally was still playing disc, catching everything; however, I noticed that she was playing with her heart, but her body was slowing down a little. Three days before, I noticed that she had one or two small miss-steps getting in and out of the van, but at no time did she show any signs of being in pain or distress. Boy, I thought my dog just got old fast…..How did that happen?  They say that it is in a dog’s DNA to hide the signs of weakness.

Well, I was traveling and working at a pet expo and had an onsite vet check her out. The bad news was that the vet found a tumor on her spleen and said, well this is not good, but he mentioned she is not in distress. He said it did not seem like an emergency, so to watch her and then just take to your vet in a couple of days when you return home.  Since, I travel and take my dogs everywhere I go, I always spend some bonding time with my dogs, but Saturday night, Oct 30, I made it Ally’s night spending even more bonding time with her. Boy, the entire evening, all I kept thinking is gosh my dog got old fast. On Sunday morning, Oct 31, 2010, I woke up and she was in a coma and then just quietly passed away.

Saying Goodbye is so hard. Ally, you touched my life in so many wonderful ways…rest in peace.
