Different people operate many businesses. However, not all succeed to the next generation. There are, however, those businesses established by great men who carefully delegate them to their children in due time, and they become of great benefit to others. These few successful ones usually have a well-laid out plan to run them, hence their captivating stories. Notable examples include John and Heath Ritenour, who started the Insurance Office of America.
John is the father of Heath Ritenour. He started the company more than 30 years ago. The business, like many others, had its many sides. In the midst of all these, the company grew regularly. Currently, it’s one of America’s largest and successful Insurance companies.
Heath Ritenour never thought that he would take over from his father though it looked right. He was not interested in the Insurance business and was not well-versed in running big companies. Mr. Ritenour later volunteered to work in the company and learned many lessons.
For instance, he identified the representatives working for monetary benefits and those who genuinely worked to help clients. Therefore, he was eager to bring changes to the industry. It was not an easy task since there were no internet connections, so he did everything manually.
While looking for clients, he made long walks and calls that mostly went unanswered or dropped. He was, however, a hardworking man, and so he pushed on to pursue his goals. When his father’s time came to step out of business, he wanted to delegate his duties to Heath Ritenour, but the latter was not ready for it.
After much compelling, Heath realized that he was most suited to take over the company. He was afraid that the person who’d take over, like many others, would sell the IOA firm. Heath felt the need to guard what his parents had built over time. He realized that he had to make worthy decisions for all the people that depended on the company.
This decision by Heath is the cornerstone behind the company’s success. It’s among the few entirely private companies in America. The management guards its culture that has contributed to its remarkable success jealously.
